Do you have a summer summer holiday planned this year with the little ones? Read my guide to a fun & stress-free summer break!
We’ll cover; how to keep the kids entertained during the journey, what to do when you arrive, how to be prepared and how to create a unique keepsake to remember your holiday for years to come!
We know how difficult long car journeys can be when it comes to having a car full of children! From the ‘are we there yet?’ questions, to having to stop off at the service station for a toilet break - it can get pretty stressful!
But, alas! We’ve got just what you need to keep the whole family occupied.
Car games are a great way to pass the time whilst on a long journey. Why not try our Forest Car Bingo - we've even created some sheets you can print out - download yours here.
Fancy a bit of peace and quiet? The quiet game is a great solution! The first one to talk LOSES. Simple as that!
When You Arrive
So you’ve got there in one piece (and everyone’s still friends!) What now? You’ve got to set the tent up or find your hotel room or airbnb, unpack, get settled and create an agenda. But how can you keep the kids entertained? That’s where we step in!
Pack one of the Forest Craft & Play boxes, glue and scissors (if accompanied of course!) to keep the kids entertained for hours. We have a range of wonderful boxes for the whole family!
Why not choose the Pixie Picnic? In this pack you’ll have everything you need to make your pixie, their picnic table and pixie food. Does sheep's wool or moss make the best pixie hair? Can you make your pixie an outfit from the bark included in your pack? The wooden peg doll is unfinished and can be stained to match whatever skin tone you like.
Colouring in sheets is another great way to keep the kids entertained. Just remember to pack their pencil case and crayons so they can get started on colouring in some beautiful pictures that you can keep forever! Here's one of our lovely illustrations to colour in.
Enjoy nature! Whilst you’re away on holiday it’s a great opportunity to get out and enjoy nature. A great way to do this is downloading a printable bug hunt sheet. The kids can spend their morning searching for friends in the grass, trees and bushes!
It’s great to be prepared for the unexpected when you go on holiday. We never want to open the suitcase looking for something to see that we’ve left it on the bedside table! So here are a few things that you might not have thought about…
1. Mosquito repellent
Being targeted by midges and mosquitoes can put a dampener on your holiday… But the smell of insect repellent isn’t always the nicest! That’s why we swear by the Avon Skin So Soft dry oil spray. Not only does it smell great and is good for the skin, but it’s also an extremely effective insect repellent. Buy yours here.
Although the British weather is unpredictable, it’s always better to be safe than sun-stroked! Taking sun cream on a stay-cation or holiday is a must. Protect your skin & the little ones too!
3. Picnic blanket & towels
Nothing ruins a trip to the beach or a pre-planned picnic quite like forgetting to bring something to sit on! Our favourite beach towel is available on Not On The High Street and can be personalised for you and your family. You’re less likely to forget something that’s got your name embroidered… right? Buy yours here.
Or why not take a look at these hooded towels for the kids… Perfect for keeping them dry and warm at the beach after they’ve had a paddle in the sea! Buy yours.
4. Round BBQ bucket
Gone are the days of disposable bbq’s… come on, it’s 2021! These reusable BBQ buckets are perfect for picnics, beach days or small courtyard gardens. It’s all about portable dining in the sun! Just wash with warm, soapy water (when it’s cooled back down of course!) to reuse on your next trip! Take a look.
5. Personalised bookmarks
Never lose what page you’re on with these beautiful personalised bookmarks! Because it’s metal, it’s easier to find and won’t get damaged by the sand or sea. Add your own photos and keep it tucked away ready for when you want to have another read. Personalise yours today.
When You’re Home
When you’re back to the comfort of your own home and you’ve unpacked your suitcase, you might be looking for new and unique ways to keep hold of the memories you’ve created. Why not make your own keepsake photo box frame? You can add a photo of the family, some sand from the beach, a little message for future you and add in your Forest peg doll too! The perfect little box of memories from such a special time away. Search box frames here.
